Music festivals worth flying for.
Indians fly for music now, in numbers that did not exist five years ago. What has not caught up is honest information: which festivals justify the distance, what they cost once everything is counted, and how long the paperwork really takes. This is the desk's working view, kept current.
The year, roughly
March opens with Ultra in Miami. Coachella takes two weekends of April in the California desert. Europe holds the middle of the year, with Tomorrowland over two July weekends at Boom in Belgium, and Primavera, Sziget and Creamfields around it. Asia takes the back half, and December is the strongest month for anyone travelling from India, with Tomorrowland Thailand at Wisdom Valley in Pattaya. Stadium tours sit outside this rhythm and move each year.
The paperwork decides the year
This is the part that settles everything, and it is usually discovered last. The United States requires a B1 or B2 visitor visa for an Indian passport, and appointment availability in India has run into months. Europe requires a Schengen visa, faster, though still three to six weeks of documentation and a slot. Southeast Asia is the opposite, visa free or visa on arrival, and can be arranged in weeks. A festival nine months away should begin with an appointment, not a ticket.
The cost
A festival abroad is four numbers and only one of them is the ticket. Tickets run 15,000 to 60,000 rupees depending on the festival and the tier. Flights are the largest line for anything beyond Asia. Rooms near a festival site treble during the event and clear first. Ground transport is the number nobody counts, and at a site like Boom or Indio it is the difference between a good weekend and a long one.
How tickets actually sell
The major festivals sell in tiers and the tiers move at release. Coachella and Tomorrowland both run registration systems where you queue for the right to buy. Asia is looser, with tickets often available closer in. The assumption that catches Indian buyers is that a resale market will exist. For the largest names it does, at two to three times face. For the rest it does not.

Asia is where this starts. Short flight, simple entry, low ground cost, and enough of the experience to learn what you actually want before spending on Europe. For anyone past that, Tomorrowland Belgium remains the standard every other festival is measured against.

Which music festival is simplest to reach from an Indian passport?
Anything in Southeast Asia. Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia are short flights and either visa free or visa on arrival. Tomorrowland Thailand in December is the most straightforward headline festival on the calendar for an Indian traveller.
How far ahead should a festival abroad be planned?
Six months for Europe and America, because the visa is the constraint, not the ticket. Two to three months for Asia. Festival tickets themselves release nine to twelve months out and the better tiers go first.
What does an Indian passport need for Coachella or Ultra Miami?
A United States B1 or B2 visitor visa. Appointment availability in India has run into months, which means the visa decides whether the journey happens at all.
What does a festival abroad cost from India?
Asia lands between 90,000 and 2,50,000 rupees a person before flights, depending on the festival and the standard of the stay. Europe begins near 2,50,000 and America above it. Tickets, rooms and ground transport are the three costs consistently underestimated.
Do people travel to these alone?
Most do. The majority of Indians who fly for a festival arrive alone or in a pair. What decides the week is who they end up with once they land, which is the part a hosted journey answers and a self-booked one does not.
Can two festivals be done in one trip?
Rarely, and rarely well. The calendar spaces the headline festivals months apart, and the ones that do sit close together are on different continents. The exception is a festival plus the city week around it, which is how Miami Music Week and Ultra work, and that is one trip rather than two.
What should you pack for a festival abroad?
Closed shoes in every case, and a layer that matches the destination rather than the season at home. European and American festivals are cold at night even in summer; Asian ones stay humid until morning. A thin rain shell is worth its space almost everywhere.
How many days should a festival trip be?
Never the festival days alone. Landing the day a festival opens means starting three days of standing already tired, and long-haul arrivals leave no margin for a delay. Two days either side is the shape that works, which is also why a festival is better as the anchor of a journey than as the whole of one.
